Near-Death Experiences

Page history last edited by Charlie Barton 12 years, 3 months ago

Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) are sometimes considered to be evidence of an afterlife.

They are part of the Body, Soul and Personal Identity section in unit 3B of the A2 specification.

There are different ways of defining an NDE.

There are various key features of NDEs.

You should be aware of various case studies.

You need to explain and evaluate the ideas of researchers and doctors.

Are NDEs best explained supernaturally; as the product of the brain, or psychologically?

AO2 questions are likely to focus on how subjective NDEs are, and their value as evidence of survival beyond death.

Other difficult questions for discussion that may be worth exploring about NDEs:

*are NDEs 'merely subjective'?

*to what extent to NDEs fit with particular religious interpretations of the afterlife?
